In my experience, only about one-in-five small businesses are working with a professional business coach. This is disturbing to me because having a coach can be one of the smartest business decisions a business owner can make.
While there are numerous reasons for this dismal statistic, I’d like to address one specific one below, namely the way coaching services are bought and sold. If there’s an area ripe for change, this is it.
One of the issues I’ve had with the way most coaching practices work is, because they typically schedule weekly client calls offering three, six and twelve month packages, they eliminate those people who do not need regular sessions or, perhaps, cannot afford the package fees.
Hiring a professional coach costs between $500 to $1,500 per month or more. This model works great for both the client, since it gives them service on a regular schedule, and the coach, providing the them with steady cash flow.
Unfortunately, many times this is either too costly for the people who need it most or it’s more than a person needs at a particular time.
A new coaching paradigm
One of the greatest benefits of the technology we have available in the 21st century is the ability to disrupt old, outdated business models and replace them with more efficient ones.
For example, when Steve Jobs introduced the original iPod in 2001 it revolutionized the music industry, making it simple to buy and download songs directly to your device.
Airbnb, Uber, ZIP cars and others have harnessed the available technology to totally alter the hospitality and transportation industries.
What does this have to do with coaching?
One of the new technologies available for coaches and other service providers is changing the way coaches and consultants offer their services.
In the case of coaching and consulting services, while the tried and true relationships (weekly, bi-weekly, three, six month and longer packages) are still available to those who require them, there are new options possible as a result of the advances in technology.
Online scheduling and billing sites like www.AskAnExpert.pro and others make it possible to have access to professionals, like myself, without having to commit to hundreds or thousands of dollars a month.
And they are available on an “as needed” basis in thirty minute increments.
When might you want to use this new service?
- You have a major decision to make and would like to be able to tap into my more than twenty years experience and expertise to help you decide on the best decision.
- You have a new idea and want a short session to brainstorm and flesh out your idea before proceeding.

Now, even if you’re not ready to enter into a formal coaching relationship you can still hire me as your mentor/coach and be billed only for the time you actually need.
While I’m a big believer in regular coaching and have been working with a coach myself for more than twenty years, I’m excited about the possibilities with this new service.
Anyone who knows me will tell you I’ve always had a “soft spot” for the woman or man who is struggling or just starting out. I want to be able to help those people who may not be ready to invest a lot of money but still need help.
My mission has always been to help as many people as I can to have a better life which is why I’m so excited to be able to offer this new service.
