"Get out of your comfort zone to succeed "
It's called a "Comfort Zone" because it's comfortable! I'm referring
to that complacency we all get into where our lives seem just fine. Nothing
is really wrong. On the surface, all looks fine. After all, if I'm comfortable,
why would I want to change?
Well, there are at least two good reasons why we periodically need to
stretch ourselves out of that warm, comfortable groove in our everyday
life. One reason is that we are constantly growing and changing as human
beings and in order to grow, we need challenges.
Remember, in life, there
is no standing still. You're either moving forward or backward. We're
either growing or dying. It's like the story of the coral along the Great
Barrier Reef in Australia. The coral on the ocean side, being challenged
by the winds, waves and elements, thrives and grows while the coral living
on the serene bay side, with nothing to challenge it, withers and quickly
dies.
The second reason to challenge yourself to move out of your comfort zone,
my friend, is that absolutely everything you want in your life, now and
in the future, will require you to move out of your present comfort zone.
If it didn't, then you'd already have it in your life. If you want a better
relationship with your family, it will require you to do something that
is out of your comfort zone. If you want to have more peace, serenity,
joy or excitement in your life, you will have to stretch out of your zone
and do something you're not presently doing. If you want some material
thing like a new car or house, you will certainly have to take different
action than you're now taking and if you want a better job, your own business
or more money, you will surely need to stretch yourself out of the space
you're presently in.
The payoff, however, is well worth the effort. The payoff is living a
life beyond your wildest imagination. Forcing yourself to stretch, little
by little, out of your comfort zone will result in your experiencing more
of the good that life has to offer.
An added benefit is that, as you get in the habit of challenging yourself
and begin to widen your circle of comfort, you will begin to grow in other
areas as well. Very often the discipline you use to expand one area of
your life can be carried over into other areas as well. The commitment
to stretching your limits that gets you out of bed and into the health
club in the morning is the same commitment that will stretch you to make
one more sales call in your business at the end of the day. As you expand
one area of your life, the others expand along with it. It is like an
ever widening circle. You have everything to gain by stretching out of
your comfort zone so begin by taking the first step now.
