“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life that he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.”
Henry David Thoreau, American Philosopher (1817 to 1862)
You may have read the above quotation at one time or another but, have you really thought about what the great American philosopher was trying to tell us.
Notice he advises that you “advance confidently in the direction of your dreams.”
He doesn’t say, to give it a try and hope that you can get there. By advancing confidently, you exert a certainty that will begin to attract other people, circumstances, and events to you.
By advancing confidently, you’ll erase any doubt that could sabotage your intentions. Step out bravely and boldly, stand tall, walk fast and speak with conviction and certainty whenever you discuss your dreams. And, by the way, only discuss them with people who are supportive of your success.
“Endeavor to live the life that you have imagined.” Thoreau is not saying wait until you have arrived. He is saying “endeavor,” – to attempt, to make an effort, to exert oneself.
He is also not saying to sit around waiting for your success to come to you. He’s not saying to buy a lottery ticket and hope you win.
Again, your sincere effort will send a signal to the universe as well as your own sub-conscious mind that you are, in fact, serious about pursuing your dream.
Begin to act and live as though you have already realized your dream. If your dream is to be a great leader, when confronted with any situation, ask yourself, “What would the leader I am becoming, do in this situation” and act accordingly.
Make an effort to be the person you want to become. Carry yourself the way a successful person would. Act the way a leader would act. Do what you can right now to start living the life that you have imagined.
If in your imagined life, you are more successful, something as simply as cleaning your home, your car, or your closets will move you in the direction of your dreams. Start now to create the surroundings of a successful person.
What will you get by doing all of this? As has been promised, “you will be met with a success unexpected in common hours.”
