It’s been more than twenty-five years since I first began what has now become a daily habit of reading personal development, biographies and business books daily.
I only do it for ten to fifteen minutes a day but it has literally transformed my life. By now, I’ve read over 500 books and listened to countless Audio programs and Podcasts.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not one of those people who are going to tell you to stop watching television or hanging with your friends. Life is to be lived and what you choose to do with yours is entirely up to you.
I am, however, going to suggest you devote at least some time each day to working on your personal and professional development. Set aside time to read, if only for ten or fifteen minutes a day. I know several highly successful people who read an hour or more each day. Do what works for you.
In your car or at the gym you can listen to Podcasts or audio‘s some of the time. Again I’m not going to tell you not to listen to your songs, just spend “some” time on your own personal growth. It will pay you back with a life beyond any you can imagine from where you are right now. Trust me. I’ve been there and back.
When I began this journey, now many years ago, I had no idea of the life I was about to embark upon. After a decade long downward spiral, I hit my bottom just prior to my 40th birthday. I thought my life was over.
I now sit writing this post, having had the honor of touching the lives of more than a million people worldwide with my books and programs.
My books have sold almost a million copies and I’ve had the privilege of speaking to thousands of people in my live seminars and workshops. I’ve been blessed with a life beyond my wildest expectations.
I can’t even to begin to explain how amazing that feels to this “Irishman from Staten Island” who barely graduated High school.
A lot of people have commented that I’m smart. While I am reasonably intelligent, what appears as smart to others is simply the knowledge I’ve gained from decades of reading in specialized areas.
I always enjoyed reading. Years ago when I was commuting by bus to a job in NYC I had plenty of time to read, but it was the reading habit I developed after having a second chance at my life that has made the difference.
My days are different when I skip this practice. Among other things reading, along with my prayer and meditation time, sets my emotions and personal vibration on high.
I’m better equipped to deal with the day ahead, whatever it may bring.
Stuff happens and there are going to be days when it “hits the fan.” In those times it’s important to remember this ancient wisdom:
By spending even a short time in the morning I am centered, motivated and better able to handle whatever comes up throughout my day.
As with anything you read, don’t just take my word for it. I challenge you to do this for 30 Days and see for yourself what happens.
