Of all the positive emotion we can experience, the one that produces the highest vibration, according the the scientists who measure these things, is gratitude. It’s not joy, passion, or even love but gratitude that evokes our highest and most pure vibrational state.

This may be because heartfelt gratitude honors our Creator and, as a result, causes us to feel the other positive emotions.

What better day than the US celebration of Thanksgiving, to reflect on this.

On this day, it is a practice around our house, as it is for many people, to take time to reflect on those things we are grateful for in our lives. Actually, for Georgia and I, it is a regular practice. Over time, we have realized that by taking the time to express what we are grateful for each day, more good has come into our lives.

It’s a law – the law of attraction – that what we hold our attention on is attracted to us, therefore, it stands to reason that focusing on what we are grateful for in our lives will attract more of the same, namely that which to be grateful for.

Doing this does not need to be a long, drawn out process. Listing four or five things you are grateful for each day will hold you in this energy of appreciation which will activate the law and begin attracting to you more of that which you desire.

But . . . what if you don’t feel particularly thankful right now?

What if, like so many people, you’re having a difficult time and are feeling a bit of self pity?

Now, along comes Thanksgiving with all of its added pressures and family obligations and you’re faced with all those “grateful” people telling you to count your blessings.

“Bah, humbug!” you say, “if you felt like I do, you wouldn’t be so darned smiley.”

So just how can you change how you feel even when you’re feeling down and would rather just sit and have a pity party?

Let’s face it, we’ve all been there at one time or another and will probably be there again. We’ve all experienced times when we just did not feel very thankful. I know I have. We have all experienced times when life just seems to have singled us out for problems. What do we do then?

The fastest and most effective way I know to change how you’re feeling about yourself is to get out of yourself. Get out of your own problems and concerns. Go out and do something for someone else. I guarantee you will feel better after doing this.

You could do anything from volunteering to help feed the homeless at a soup kitchen, delivering a bag of groceries to someone in need, donating some of your unwanted, good condition, clothing, visiting someone in a hospital or nursing home, or any number of things that will enable you to step out of yourself long enough for your perspective to change. You’ll be amazed how much your “problems” have changed when you’re finished.

Following are a couple of other things you can do to make this a happier, more enjoyable holiday season:

Write a list of everything that is good in your life
What’s working? What are you grateful for? Be sure to list every little thing you can think of, the more the better. It’s a fact that a person cannot feel gratitude and be in self pity at the same time.

Refuse to take part in gossip
Gossip serves no one. Remember what you give out comes back. Besides who do you think the gossips are talking about when you’re not there? If you want to be happier and more at peace, choose not to partake. A great suggestion for many family gatherings. By the way, look for more about this topic in my next post.

Relax and enjoy your holiday
Contrary to what retailers would like you to believe, there’s still lots of time to shop before Christmas. You don’t have to rush to the stores at 2:00 am the day after Thanksgiving just because some companies choose to open at that time.

Taking what you know and turning it into an income stream is not hard but it can be tricky. There are a number of steps that need to be followed and a specific process for creating your ideal model.

My mentor/coach service consists of three monthly phone calls with me personally and (within reason) unlimited email in between. Calls typically last 1 to 1 1/2 hours during which time we will address your concerns, develop your plan and set your tasks for the weeks ahead. In addition to being your coach, I act as your accountability partner to help you stay on schedule.

Your total investment for my coaching, and support is $600 per month, however you can save $300 by paying three months in advance for a total of $1,500.

I recently received an email from a man in Africa, asking for my advice on how he can change his life.

In thinking about his situation I realized that, no matter where you are – Africa, New York, London, Tokyo, or anywhere else, it’s the same process.

You can’t keep telling the same story and expect conditions to change. If you want to improve conditions in your life, you must begin telling yourself a new story.

The most important thing you can do is stop talking about the problems.

Yes, conditions are difficult in many parts of the world however continuing to talk about them and feeling victimized does nothing more than give energy to the problem.

Whether you’re trying to earn enough to feed your family, start your business or, as is the case in the United States government, create jobs, the law of attraction is always at work.

No matter who’s in office, if they continue to focus on the problem, they will continue to perpetuate the condition. This is one of the reason governments everywhere in the world are ineffective in changing conditions.

All teachings teach something similar to the Bible statement that, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”

We attract what we think about. Period. It’s non negotiable.

You cannot keep saying things like, “I don’t want to be struggling all the time” and expect it to magically change.

We must all learn to change the conversation from what we do not want to what we do. You must begin writing a new story about your life, literally. Start talking to yourself about how your life is getting better and better each day.

Learn to focus your attention on what it is you do have, what you are thankful for- however little that may be- and what is going right in your life.

Spend some time each day, in your mind, seeing the life you want to be living. Feel it with all your senses.

If it’s a job you want, begin by imagining yourself working in your ideal career, enjoying your work and feeling appreciated. Of course, don’t stop there. We have an active role to play in our lives so, after you invest time seeing the life you want, get up and do something to move toward it, however small it may seem at the moment.

If you want to start or grow a business, instead of looking at obstacles, however true they may seem, start looking for ways you can provide service.

When you find ways to serve: your community, your fellow man, and the world at large, you will begin to see ways in which you can earn money.

It’s never the other way around.

I know of no one who is successful who began by looking for ways to make money. Financial abundance is always the result of doing something that provides value in the world.

Begin now writing the story of your new life. Write it down, act it out, see it, feel it and start moving toward it.

As the title of one of my books reminds us, “This is Your Life, Not a Dress rehearsal.”

 

Listening to the reports about what’s presently going on in the economy I’m reminded of a time, a number of years ago, when we were going through what many people are going through now.

The end of the month was approaching and we were experiencing a cash flow challenge. It was, in all honesty, one of the greatest tests of faith I had experienced in a very long time.

Interestingly enough, I stayed positive throughout, knowing somehow that it would all work out for the best.

During the last week or two of the month my resolve was tested several times.

Using everything I have learned about the law of attraction, and staying focused on what I wanted, I managed to stay “locked on,” to borrow a phrase from Lynn Graybhorn, author, Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting.

The tricky part and where I believe many people get tripped up, is holding your attention on what you want, while ignoring the “reality” of what is.

Visualizing what you desire while being careful not to notice what has not yet happened.

 Let me explain.

When facing challenging times, a drop-off in revenue for example, most people devote a lot of time and energy noticing the lack of business.

This is generally the opposite of what they want. What they want is lots of business.

The law of attraction, a universal law as valid as any other law, like gravity, tells us essentially “we attract of what we focus on.”

The subtlety here is that if we are noticing the lack of revenue, we will attract that. In other words, we will attract more lack of revenue.

The challenge and I believe the real test of ones faith, is to ignore reality and only look at what we want.

We then let go and trust in the Divine Power, that it will appear in the perfect way in the perfect time. The only way it cannot is if we block it by holding our attention, our power as a co-creator, on less than what we want.

During my recent challenge, I knew deep within my being, at the cellular level, that everything would work out. I went about my business taking appropriate actions, holding my attention on what I wanted, being appreciative for everything I already have (counting my blessings) and yes, ignoring reality.

I know that there people who will say I was crazy or foolish and that we have to “be realistic!” There was a time when I might have tried to convince them I was right. Now all I do is smile for I know better.

A few days before the end of the month, in the middle of a phone call with friend, I went on-line to check my bank balance and see what was happening, to see what checks had cleared and what yet had not cleared. When I looked at the screen I almost feel over, because what I saw there was a very large deposit sitting in my business account.

A small part of me still thought it might be a mistake, but I rejoiced in what could only be described as a miracle. I realized right then and there that all of our positive focus and refusal to accept lack had in fact produced a significant result.

I believe this was a “sign” that our faith was not in vain.

 “What so ever you ask for in prayer, believe you have received it and it will be given unto you.” This quotation from the Bible explains it all.

Activity Step

In your journal complete the steps below.

Step 1 – Know what you DON’T want. Write it down.

Step 2 – Know what you DO want. Write it down.

Then, here’s the “secret“, spend some time each day feeling the feelings that you will experience when you have what you want. See and feel yourself as you would if you already had your desire.

For example, if what you want is more money, you probably don’t want little pieces of paper with numbers on them. You most likely want some feeling associated with having the money. Maybe it’s joy, freedom, security or some other good feeling.

Focus on this feeling and recreate it in your body. Imagine you already have the money and are feeling the feelings it brings. Experience all of the good feelings that will come with your desires.

Give no attention to the fact that you do not yet have it. Ignore reality during this “Feel good” time. Do this simple exercise for a few minutes each day.

 

There is one question you typically never hear asked at business meetings.

It is the one that I consider the only question that you need to ask in order to grow any business.

It is the one that if applied properly, can double or triple your income.

It is the one that can eliminate wasted time, money, and energy.

It is the one that if ignored can spell disaster for your business.

By now you are probably wondering what it is?

Well . . . the question is “What’s working?”

Now before you dismiss this as being too simple, hear me out.

This simple two-word question has been used by me, and many of my colleagues, to turn around not only our own business but those of countless clients ranging from solo businesses to Fortune 500 corporations.

Like many things in life, its simplicity is what makes it so powerful. Asking this type of value finding question invokes the powerful law of attraction and begins to attach more of the same.

This is the first step in a series of questions that I use in my business consulting as well as in my own business. It has proven over a ten-year period to be an invaluable tool for growing not only my clients businesses, but my own as well.

I am not suggesting you ignore problems, just that you minimize their impact and never, ever allow them to set the tone of a meeting. If I want to explore what’s wrong or not working, I can find endless “reasons” (excuses) for this situation. Everything from the economy to the weather can be used to justify why business is down, but and this is key, so what?

As a business owner do you really care why sales are down or do you want to change it?

Assuming that you would rather change the situation, where is the pay-off in studying the problem? On the other hand, by identifying what is working, and employing other value finding questions, you will learn what actions and activities are working and, from there, you are in a position to do more of what is actually working to grow your revenue.

In selling my products, something as simple as identifying a product like my new “Wake Up and See the Money” audio that is selling well, can be the beginning of a new strategy and an additional ways to sell more.

Knowing that it is already working, I can concentrate time and effort on locating additional sales and distribution outlets and since what I am doing is already working, it’s like to continue.

By asking the “what’s working” question, you will eliminate spending time on low value, low return actions and concentrate your efforts where you are already succeeding.

By the way, this is critically important, but rarely used, when evaluating your advertising.

Too many small business owners continue to buy worthless advertising simply because it’s “what we’ve always done.” If you put your advertising up against the “what’s working” test, you may be surprised at what you learn.

The good news is that you can stop wasting money on what’s not working and invest more in the activities and the media that are bringing you results. The net result of this is a big “cha-cing.”
